Cowessess First Nation #73 Treaty Land Entitlement invites applications for Off Reserve Trustees

Cowessess First Nation #73 is now accepting applications from Cowessess First Nations Members for three (3) Trustees from Off Reserve for a three (3) year term position to March 13, 2029.

Qualifications:

  • Must be over the age of eighteen (18) years;
  • Must be a registered member on the Band list of the Cowessess First Nation #73;
  • Must possess business or business related experience;
  • Must have no previous criminal record with regards to fraud, breach of trust, theft, or forgery (C-PIC);
  • Must be honest, trustworthy, dependable, reliable, and committed;
  • Must be able to attend meetings as required.
  • Must meet the requirements and criteria listed in Section 12 and 13 of TLE Trust Agreement.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the operation and management of the Trust property (as that term is defined in the Cowessess Treaty Land Entitlement Trust Agreement) together with all Entitlement Lands, property, and assets of the Trust;
  • Oversee the administration and management of all authorized investments and revenues of the Cowessess Treaty Land Entitlement Trust;
  • Oversee the coordination and acquisition of all Entitlement Lands acquired by the Cowessess Treaty Land Entitlement Trust including the execution of all required purchase and sale agreements;
  • Oversee the coordination of all steps required to facilitate the placement of lands acquired by Trust into Reserve Status under the terms of the Cowessess Treaty Land Entitlement Settlement and Trust Agreements including the execution of all documents and agreements authorizing the negotiation, settlement and extinguishment of third party interest along with transfer of lands to His Majesty the Queen in the Right of Canada for the purpose of Reserve Creation;
  • Oversee the management and operation of the Cowessess Treaty Land Entitlement Administration office.
  • Ability to understand and review financial statements.
  • Meet with Band Membership annually.
