  Use this checklist to stock a basic 72-hour kit and add items depending on your family’s needs. Ideally, your kit should be stored in a waterproof and wheeled container. You may have to stay in your home without electricity or water, or you may have to stay in your house for some time.

  If an emergency happens in your community, it may take emergency workers some time to get to you. You should be prepared to care for yourself and your family for at least 72 hours. By taking a few simple steps today, you can become better prepared to face a range of emergencies-anytime, anywhere.
