1907 Land Surrender Update 100724 
As your Chief and Council, we are able to report that after nearly four years at the negotiating table, the negotiation teams for our First Nation and Canada have agreed on a proposal, that if acceptable to Canada and the Cowessess First Nation Membership, will provide the basis for a settlement of the Cowessess 1907 Land Surrender Specific Claim.
The next step in the process is for Canada’s negotiation team to obtain the approval of the Federal Cabinet and Treasury Board, in order to allow a formal written offer of settlement to be made to the Cowessess First Nation. We have reason to believe that Canada’s internal process will be completed and a formal offer made by early Spring of 2025.
Upon receipt of that offer, the details will be shared with our Membership, who will then after a series of information meetings be asked to vote on whether to accept or reject that offer along with the corresponding Settlement and Trust Agreements associated with the proposed settlement.
We look forward to being in a position to share the details of Canada’s offer as soon as it is received.
